Get a picture of him flaring, that'll help us out a bit :)
but right now I'm leaning towards delta, not young halfmoon

I vote Delta. Look at the rays in his tail. Looks like the highest his ray count goes to is 6. It's very rare that you'll see a halfmoon with less then 8 rays, most have 12-16. Also look at the edges of his tail, see how they're straight and almost seem to curve inward slightly? The edges of a true halfmoons tail will always flare outward when the betta is resting.

To me he looks like hes the result of a veiltail x delta/halfmoon cross, maybe second generation. I bet if you bred him with a halfmoon you would get a couple of veiltails in the spawn.

But regardless he's gorgeous!! Love his coloring!

my question is still in play are hm born with a full hm tail or do u have to help them streach out the fins

My HM Jade didn't look like a HM until Months after I had him. He wasn't as young as yours seems the first day, but it might take some time, anyway.

But! I'm not experienced with rays, as the above user sounds like they are. So don't completely trust my word on that lol.

Still, I love his colors. He's very handsome.

Rays are pretty simple to understand. Here I highlighted the rays on your boys so you can see, the area I highlighted has 4 rays. Now that I look at him more closely I don't count anymore then 4 rays, definitely a delta.

Delta.

I have a halfmoon and he doesn't look like that.

His tail has very few rays and isn't a D
