Make sure that 55 you plan to cut up isn't tempered. Otherwise it will shatter as soon as you try to cut it.

the 55 gallon was tempered lol.Glass EVERYWERE no one got hurt though so its ok..But i bought a 20 gallon long and divided it 4 ways at 7 1/4 each section its going NPT with top soil and sand cap with an external sump with bio reactor =).Also getting a free sheet of 1/4 glass like 4ft by 5 ft i beleive so i am going to custom build a few things =) thanks for all the help.

The "elite" sponge filter in picture are cheap on e-bay because they're BLEEP BLEEP worthless in the long term.

Get a canister filter the right size for a 40 gallon tank, put the out in one end and the in in the other and have holes in the dividers at bottom and top.

If you use a pair of pre-filter sponges and intake strainers for the lines in the tank, you should have no problems.

The dividers are solid glass....lol im making my own sponge filters and im going to have have the water come out of all 4 into a 20g plastic sump through a mechanical,carbon,and into a bio reactor then back into the tank.

A few hose fittings and a small canister filter with a home made spray bar will likely the same result with stock items. Hope the EIY works out tho, innovation by individuals has produced most of the top end products in this hobby.
