Hello, so I have decided to go Barebottom for my 1 gallon shrimp bowl. How can i do this but still make it look attractive? Should I get a fake sinking plant and just stick it in the middle? Would that look good? It would just be so much easier. That way I can see my babies (I really like them, they are like fish. Not just little cleaners!) And I can see the poop so I can spot clean which would minimize constant water changes which is quite a hassel. I have to make sure I have each and every shrimp!

If so, can you guys recommend me a plant or anything else?

Marimo moss balls are what i was thinking about using if I ever get to set up my planned shrimp tank. Depending on the size of the moss balls or your tank, between 3 and 8 would be lovely and create a bottom that also is a semi-filter that they can crawl on and find little bits of yummy stuff to eat.

What type of shrimp do you have? I was going to go with cherry if I can find them, but ghost are easier to find and cheap.

If you get ghost shrimp, a clear bottom will make them harder to see. You can get the larger polished dark rocks to use to see them better. Shrimp prefer plants and rocks to climb around and search for food in. Gives them something to do..

Okay. Maybe i'll get a moss ball, and a nice plant to play on. Then i'll cut up the moss ball and pack it on the bottom so it looks like the floor.

Oh, and I already have Ghosties.

I would get some sort of moss...Java moss or flame moss would look cool. You could attach the moss to medium size rocks that way if you needed to remove it for water change it would be pretty simple.

Like any other plants at your LPS or online. Java moss is pretty easy to find, just get a small piece of driftwood/lava rock place the java moss on it use some sewing string to tie it around and around, after awhile the moss will root itself to whatever it's tied to so you can just cut the string off.

If you can't find java moss, try to see if your LPS will give you some hair algae, I have that in my 2 gallon right now tied onto some driftwood, shrimps like that too.
