I would breed Male #2 to Female #5, just because I love black bettas!
My second choice would be to breed Male #3 to Female #4. I think they all would make beautiful fry!

What are your goals? Are you breeding for experience or do have specific goals?

If you're looking to get good form, I wouldn't breed the HMPK black because she only has 2 rays. Unless, of course you're willing to inbreed for a few generations.

female 4 (4 rays) would result equally to any of the HM males. Perhaps HM #3 compliments her fins better.

I can't see female #1. # 2 and 3 looks like they're from similar line (if not the same) and are of equal form. Both are compatible with the CT male - all from similar lines.

Well. This is my first time breeding so I'm looking to gain experience. But I would prefer to produce the best quality fishes I can.

I was thinking.

Female #2 - Male #1
Female #4 - Male #3
Female #5 - Male #2

That sounds good. Remember to choose the fry with the most ray branching plus the actual HM, not super deltas for your F2 (HM) .

As for CT, choose the ones with the most even fin length and web reduction.

Good Luck.

Breeding through the Melano gene has left almost all females unfertile, only an estimated 1-2% has been fertile.

Here's a website with some betta genetic info, there are other sites as well by geneticists Dr. Gene Lucas and a man named Jim Sonnier - http://watershed3.tripod.com/types.html
