White mass

I went to my LPS today to show my Mom some of his beautiful fish and he had a gorgeous half moon male that has a mass on his gill. He said he had given it some medication but it hasn't gone totally away so he assumed it to be cancer or something similar. He gave me the fish, since he knew he would not be able to sell it, and also knew I would take care of it.

Has anyone seen anything like this or how to treat it? He is eating well and seems to be swimming normally.
Would like to help the little guy if I could although he doesn't seem to be under any stress.

Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

Awww poor guy. How pretty is he!

Maybe a tumor or something? I dunno. That is so odd. Maybe you could look into seeing a vet? Maybe they could remove it.

Google Lymphocystis and see if the pic look like what your Betta has.....it is viral and no treatment...but its not fatal unless it grows to the point that it impeded on daily living and sadly that location....could be problematic...often the mass will get worse before it gets better....it usually will pop and ooze white/pinkish/red liquid, fall off-re-grow or not...go away...sometimes it comes back...unpredictable.......
