well latle nova has been not moving much. he stays by one side of the tank. he seems to just like to sleep or something. also he seemed to have lost color in his fin tips. what do you think is wrong? i did a tank change sunday 50% but that didnt make a difference either. on the bright side he is eating more then ever.

It sounds like a water quality issue....I would make 50% water change for 2 days then a 100% and see if this will perk him up...then get on a regular schedule of twice weekly in a unfiltered 2.5gal tank of 1-50% and 1-100% to maintain water quality....don't over feed....however, it sounds like you may be underfeeding and remove any uneaten food...if any....

Be sure and dose the dechlorinator for the full volume of the tank...even with the partial changes and try to keep the water temp within a few degrees between new and old water....

When you do the 100% and remove the Betta be sure and acclimate him to the new water chemistry by adding small amount of the new tank water to the holding container for 10 min or so......

Keep us posted....

ok i will make sure to do so. i do feed him quite a bit in the morning and at night. im not home during the day so i cant really feed him. i had the filter on last week and he did the same thing. so i though he didnt like it so i turned it off thinking he would be fine no current or anything. but i will do changes 2 times a week? just make sure i understand. thank you so much for your help.

Often in the smaller tanks its best to remove the filter altogether....without a filter it will only change one of the two needed water changes anyway......

With a filter-twice weekly 50% and without-twice weekly 1-50% and 1-100%

It definitely sounds like a water quality issue, but all the excess flakes are making it even worse. You say you feed him quite a bit of them, so that is just speeding up the ammonia and such. If you can, try to get him on either frozen or pellet food for a good chunk of his meals, as since you can control exactly how much food you are putting in and can take it out easier.
