I currently have a 24 gallon tank, but i am downsizing to a 10. The 24 gallon is not visually appealing, and i am too lazy to put work into aquascaping it. SO

the 10 gallon idea was born :D In my 24 gallon i have:

2 female bettas
1 angelfish
4 black phantom tetras.

yea, that is a sad amount of fish. SO. it will work for me to move them all into a new tank. These fish have been together for over a year and have NOT caused any harm to each other.

I know angels should not be in a 10 gallon, so i am considering re-homing her so she can live a nicer life.

My question is this. I am dying, seeing all these gorgeous bettas and knowing there is no way i can get another. If i returned the angel, and moved the tetras to a 5gal, could i get another female? And if i kept the BFTs in the tank, i could still get another? I plan on adding:

Driftwood (already have, adding java moss to it for visual appeal)
possible anubias/pennywort

small decorative cave (betta safe - no small gaps to get caught in)
3 - 4 plastic plants

does this sound alright to you experts? :D

You shouldn't have just two female bettas in a tank, even if they've been getting along. In a new territory and with the other fish removed they might become hostile towards one another for territory. In a 10 gal with the other fish rehomed or removed, you could add 3 more girls, and that is what I would recommend doing.

If you get more female bettas, you will also need to get alot more decorations. They need places to hide and ideally, there should be coverage at different levels of the tank (top, middle and bottom). Tall plants or floating plants are good because I have hard some alpha females will attack other females when they go to the top for air and the fish ends up dying cause it cant get air. My girls, thankfully do not do this.

Also, i've heard of Angelfish being aggressive and not good betta tank mates.

So i would do what was suggested before and get the 3 more females(add them at the same time to distribute aggression at first), then just leave the angelfish out.
