Looking for cheap floating plants

I live in California so some plants aren't to be shipped into here.

I need something that floats and will work in a low-light tank until i get a lamp.
I'd also like something that grows/spreads pretty fast because iwant to start it in my 20 long then eventually have it in my two ten gallons and maybe my smaller tanks.

I'm going to be getting money here in the next few days but would like to spend as little as possible because i need to save for other things.

Where in Cali are you? (feel free to PM me that info). I just got a ton of duckweed. I put half of it down the garbage disposal already, but I still have too much.

The thing with duckweed is it might take awhile to "settle" in but once it does it takes off like crazy. Just make sure to keep it thinned out or it will completely cover the top of your tank and the rest of your plants (if you have any) will be starved for light. It is a great plant for sucking extra nutrients though. I had some in my 55 gallon tank (was a hitchhiker plant) I got tired of constantly having to thin it out. So I got rid of it which wasn't no easy job! Oh and also it doesn't like surface movement either. I found out it doesn't grow very well like that. The roots kept breaking off and the plantlet would die.

The filter i have in my 20 gallon doesn't make much surface movement, just enough that dust doesn't settle on it(an issue i have because i live in the desert), and on the opposite side of the tank it should she plenty quiet for it ^^ I don't have any other live plants in there yet but i am working on getting some so i'll be sure to keep it pretty thin.

I wouldn't worry about keeping it thinned out untill you get the rest of your plants. Also if no one else has told you. Once you get plants might want to think about get some fertilizer for them flourish comprehensive is a good one that a lot of people use

Yeah i know about the fertilizer it''s part of why i wanted to start with floating plants then work my way into ones that took more work.
