introducing male and female, female is floating in the tank in a cup, he gave her lots of attention.. when we checked on her she had dropped eggs. even though the male did not hug her. is this normal, I have never herd of a female just laying eggs without a male to fertilize them.. they are like at the bottom of her cup, I was amazed to see this and so was my boyfriend. he hasn't built a nest yet he is just swimming around her and the cup showing off his tail. "He did show aggressiveness at first but not so much he just mostly shows off now..

Its not uncommon for the female to drop eggs...they will either drop and/or eat the eggs or reabsorb them on a regular basis all their life....don't be surprised to see her poop look different for a few days after they eat or reabsorb the eggs-it will look-whitish/creamy-not to be confused with internal parasites...

In a spawning situation-when the female is left in the holding container too long you will have premature egg drops....not uncommon.......often it is best to use plants as a natural divider to prevent premature egg drop....but no worries.....she can still be spawned......I would release her with the male-provided that the spawning tank has plenty of places for the female to get away from the male....don't worry about the nest...he will make one...some males will wait until they have eggs in their mouth......
