Ammonia levels?

Hi guys me again
Just set up a new tank for my other son, some biological filter withe sponge, about 30litre, 7.5g.
Been running for a few hours and did a water test.
PH around 7
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
But ammonia is already running around .25ppm. Is a concern, should I address it yet or should I just let it run its course? Reason being the new fish is in bag in tank.
Thanks guys.
By the if anyone was following my last thread, Bubbles has pulled through and is starting to look healthier than ever.

I think you're supposed to leave it alone until nitrItes appear.

What kind of dechlorinator are you using, what kind of test products are you using....to understand...you just set this tank up and test the water...correct....have you tested the source water for ammonia...

Some dechlorinator will change the ammonia to ammonium the harmless form until the biological filter kicks in to take care of it...

Be sure to properly acclimate him to the water chemistry by adding small amount of the tank water to the holding container over 10-15 min or to tolerance.....

Oops...just noticed this is dated 10-1....lol....

Hi guys,
thanks for the replies.
All sorted, I actually noticed that water straight from the tap, is ctually .5ppm, but the tank must be doing it's thing because I tested yesterday ammonia was 0 along with nitrate and nitrite. Ph was about 7.3.
the little seems really happy although a little shy.
Tanks been running for a week now.
