Here are my unexpected new members of our family. I am told the stripes will disappear. These are the two girls I saved from a wedding I was at last night. (they were centre pieces)

what did you mean by "saving them?" am just curious, like some one abondoned them there?

On each table was a mason jar with a female betta in it as a centre piece. (the wedding theme was fish) But the reception was in a tent outside, I live in southern Ontario - and don't let the "southern" fool you. It was plenty cold last night and there were only a couple of heaters in the tent. No one took their jackets off so I can just imagine how cold the water was in each of these jars.
When we left I took two of the twenty five fish with me. I didn't realize females had to live in sororities or I would have taken more. My daughter has a male so I joked with her they were girlfriends for Rusty
They are in temporary bowls for now. I will get out and buy a tank with a divider for them soon. I wanted to get two that were different colours but the lighting was pretty low so I coldn't see them very well.

The brides parents (where the reception was) had a fish tank where they are keeping the pond goldfish. Any that weren't taken home were going in there :(

I am pretty sure that I have heard any bettas and goldfish will not get along. Apparently the gold fish will kill the bettas. Not sure how true this is... I hope the girl you didn't save will be ok...

Goldfish wont kill the bettas. They arent supposed to be kept together because bettas are tropical and need a heater, but goldfish will die if their water is to hot. Male bettas also have a habit of mistaking goldfish for other bettas and attacking them.

The poor girls....It was so nice of you to save them.

If the goldfish are large, as they can be in ponds, the might just eat them. :/

And if the goldfish don't eat them a pond will get very cold, if not now, soon.

girls don't HAVE to be in sororities. mine are content, living by themselves. it was wonderful of you to save them. imo, living with goldfish in a freezing pond is worse than living in a bowl or vase. :/
