Sometimes peoples' screens can show different than what another is seeing. I personally see 4 pretty purple bettas in those videos, regardless of what the title says. But honestly, does it even matter? >.> It's not worth getting into a tiff over.

I think they're pretty. :)

Looks purple to me - specially in the first two. Of course perception of colors is culture based as well.

I found an article written 3 years ago recently on the web.

It said that breeders are still attempting to create a 'solid purple' that so many are after.

It just comes down to genetics, breeding and time. Plus don't forget once they finally hit the market the price will be very high to buy one.

Im seeing the first 2 as a nice purple tint, and the next one as a rich blue and the third is, bleh. not purple.

Well my ideal 'solid purple' betta: http://bettysplendens.com/ImageResiz...ccfecc2370.jpg That one is photoshopped, however this one is the only/first true purple betta in the world.

Spawned by Minburibetta: http://bettysplendens.com/ImageResiz...258c24c8b3.jpg

Thats purple, what others call purple I call deep blue, violet or lavender.

That one in the first video is like OMG OMG OMG purple! Love it, thanks for posting! Purple's my favorite color so I'm always on the hunt! Bettaakapes posted a true dark purple giant on ab, probably gone by now..

Yes the first one is fake. Ultimately that is the ideal solid purple that breeders are attempting, one would theorise that to achieve purple you would just need to breed a blue with a solid red, however results have been mixed. Genetics is a weird thing that I never understood in biology.

2nd picture was the first confirmed purple betta splenden.

I have kept my eye out and get annoyed every time a breeder posts ###PURPLE!!!### and it's just dark blue or a tint or streak of violet/lavender. Even my LFS guy said yes I'm getting 3 solid purples, go in when he got the stock and it was just marbled blue/red/violet.

Pretty sure that any pure purples would be shared between breeders to expand the line ensuring genetic stability and minimal inbreeding much like the breeding life of the halfmoon.

Just be patient, one day in the next decade they will become mainstream!
