Shipping N handling fee questions ??

Does anyone know how USPS calculate their shipping cost ?? I know that Fedex determine their price base on the weight and size of the box, that is why they are so expensive.
I just came back from my local post office, i sent my cichlid blue ram to a friend in Colorado and cost me $40, just for 1 fish, i can't believe that was so expensive.
I saw in aquabid different shipping price from different transhipper for betta, why they are so different ??
How come Linda (Colorado) shipping and handling fee are so high comparing to Julie (California) ??
Can someone explain to me how it works ??

One might be more than the other because of the fees at the airport, where California is closer to Thailand than Colorado. $40 sounds about right for overnight shipping to me. It's more expensive in Canada LOL I believe usps has a flat box rate too?

Shipping from thailand is not cheap. Several sellers group together and export one box of fish to the transhipper which helps lower the cost. When you figure each fish costs $5 to ship to the US and transhippers get hundreds in each box you can imagine how much each box costs.

As far as USPS goes it goes by weight and how fast you want it to get there. Express has insurance and delivery confrimation built into the price as well.

IME its still WAY cheaper than fedex or ups
