So it is a pain in my ass to do water changes, so I was wondering if I could just stir up the gravel and then scoop about a gallon out, and then keep scooping and pouring the dirty water into my filter? Its just so hard. To gravel vacuum it I have to take everything out even the divider and a fish.
Yeah if you're trying to clean your water pouring it directly into the filter does not work, however if you're trying to clean your filter media, washing it out debris by using old tank water is a good idea, because you'll remove the beneficial bacteria if you use tap water.
For water changes just stir the gravel with the vacuum then start the vacuum and let it just sit there and suck out the water. Most fish will swim away when they see the vacuum. If it's divided I would do 10% on both ends.
I suck the water into my vacuum by mouth, I've got it down to a science. But anything under 10g, I just take the fish out and do 100% change. For 50% change, I just take out my water and add new water.
Haha I watch the hose and when the water gets half way to the end, I put my finger over the end and point it at the bucket on the floor and let go. I don't drink the water, although I did once in 2005... Gag.
