I am new to keeping fish and had a question regarding tanks and fish in them. I have seen countless videos on youtube with guppies and tetras living in 5 gallon tanks and thriving yet everything I read says a minimum of 20 gallons. Please let me know what the deal is. I would like to get new fish but I am in a college dorm and I am limited to the tank size i can have
I had tetras in a 10g, and just moved them to a 15g and they have perked right up. I would ok a 10g but their personality shines with more space. Guppies reproduce like rabbits. Friend of mine started out a small tank early this year, she now has hundreds. I would suggest a 20g for them but tetras can get along in a 10g with swimming area. Each type of tetra has a different personality too.
