is 1 in of sand the general amount for NPT? or is that just for his tank?

does NPT tank work with gravel too? or is it just sand and dirt?

When you use just sand...it can become anaerobic and best if you only use 1in or so...

Natural planted tanks are soil based...dirt, potting soil or top soil with either sand or small diameter gravel on top of the dirt to hold it in place...

Ok, I have started looking into the world of sand substrates. Interested in maybe doing a crushed coral or Aragonite but can that be done with a freshwater tank? Should I just stick to quarts sand? Any advice on what works and looks best?

Nay or Yay about the addition of a snail? Is is necessary if I keep the sand 1 inch deep?
