Small Risk of Poisoning?

I mentioned this in another thread but nobody really had anything to say I'm hoping somebody can calm my fears. I'm a new betta owner, had him a week. I've freaked myself out. About 3 hours ago I put flea medicine on my cat. I got some on my fingers and proceeded to scrub it off with soap and water, rinsing carefully. Soon after, I noticed a plant needed adjustment in my betta's tank. I reached in, and then realized....oh no, what if i've poisoned my wonderful fish? He seems ok so far, but I'm kicking myself.....I'm scared!! What do you people think? Do you think he'll be ok? Is fish poisoning obvious? or do you just wake up to find them dead.... :( :(

Housing
What size is your tank? 2.5 gallons
What temperature is your tank? 76-82 depending on house temperature and when tank light is on
Does your tank have a filter? yes
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? not sure?
Is your tank heated? nope
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? none

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Color enhancing pellets
How often do you feed your betta fish? 2 or 3 times a day, 3-5 pellets a day

Maintenance

How often do you perform a water change? Only had him a week, got him a bigger tank 2 days ago so not sure
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? Not sure yet, probably half
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Seachem primer

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?
No, don't know
Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
pH:
Hardness:
Alkalinity:

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? None
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? I don't think it has...he's been kind of swimming around a lot a little spastically but I think he was just flaring at his reflection. he's sleeping now
When did you start noticing the symptoms?
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
Does your fish have any history of being ill?
How old is your fish (approximately)?

Just keep an eye on him, and be careful not to do it again. If you are that scared, do a nice big water change!

If a fish is sick you'll see them lose color, change their breathing(like they are panting), lay down on the bottom of the tank, act/swim erratically, etc. There are usually signs. Depending on what it is you'll see different things. Just keep your eyes peeled for any changes in behavior!

Thank you, he went to sleep so I don't think I'll change the water for now. I'll keep an eye on him. I just hope I don't wake up to him gone :( Sorry, he's my first betta, so I'm scared of doing something wrong and hurting him!!

I understand exactly how you feel! :) I still have my first betta too, so I'm always asking questions and making sure I do everything right!

Now you know to be more careful!

It should be fine. I always used to have chemicals on my hands after work when I cleaned my fish tanks. Unless your hands are literally soaked in chemicals or you spill something into the tank, the chance of poisoning is minimal.

No worries. We all have those 'uh-oh' moments every now and then.
