I live a five-minute ride or half-hour walk from PetCo. It's a serious danger to my wallet, as I now own FIVE bettas, including a half-moon. But I can't complain for a minute
So, here are my new boys. First there was Clownface, so named by a friend when she had to watch him for a week, because of the white lipstick:
Not only does he not like to sit still, he's a neurotic tail-biter like Mongkut <3 Working on fixing that. At the moment, because I had to get them out of the dorm for room inspections this weekend, they're all living in their 'vacation homes': a series of well-tended critter keepers at home. Here I can keep an eye on them, they'll be returned to their tanks on Tuesday night.
Next there is Kuro, an impulse-buy (he LOOKED at me in that way that bettas do when they want you to buy them). Originally he was housed in the 16g with my platies, but when Ick broke out in the tank, I brought him with me to school before he could catch it. Now I'm so attached I can't be without him.
He's very mellow and got along well with the platies while he was sharing a tank with them. The only time he ever flared was when they came into his 'house,' an Asian gazebo he claimed upon his arrival. He has a gorgeous flare- the gills are striped with red and white on black, just like his pattern.
And last there is Aloha, who is a pineapple HM. I told myself I didn't need another one, especially an expensive HM. But I kept tabs on him for a week and no one bought him. He was starting to look kind of beleaguered by life in a betta-cup, and his color was not as rich as it had been, so I gave in and bought him.
I almost named him Kamehameha (Hawaiian king, not Dragon Ball Z), but he's just so sweet and charming that it seemed to forceful. He's totally delightful. <3
