Odd betta behavior

So I've had my betta, Rory, for a month or two now, been keeping up with water changes and what not, but I doubt that has anything to do with what he's doing.
Every time I walk up to his tank he flares at me. I don't know why and I've never heard of a betta doing this. Does he see me as a threat or something? Or is he showing off??

One of my boys does this to me too. He's just protecting his territory. ;)

Ok, I thought so. I just wanted to be sure haha. It's not bothering me much, I was just curious if this is at least semi-normal haha

One of mine does that to me often.. I just flare back at him (puff out my cheeks) but he always wins our "contests".. lol. He does it mostly if he is napping in a broad leaf plant and I wake him, or it's dim in the room. But once in a while he'll feel spunky and will flare at me while I'm at my desk and he wants attention. (Him and 2 others are right next to me to the side)
