I never said she wasn't trying to do her best, nor do I agree with how BettaMyia attacked LaLaLeyla. That doesn't mean I agree that since it is "just a fish" proper care should be overlooked. I guess because there is more horrific cruelty in the world the way Betta's are kept doesn't matter either?

I think we should instead focus on what the OP can do for the fish vs what they did wrong. Like cheaper ideas to house them. Like right now Petco has their buck per gal sale up to $40 gals. So 40gal for $40 and 20 for $20. The only thing is its just the tank so then you have to save up for the filter but most of the tanks come with a coupon rebate thing inside.

I try to educate people as best I can on the proper care of fish, bettas included. Whether or not they take my advice is completely up to them.

Yes it makes me feel sick to the pit of my stomach when I see a betta languishing in a filthy bowl. But arguing with someone isn't going to do anything but make that individual more inclined to dig in their heels over it.

I simply prefer to lay out the facts as I did to LaLaLeyla (ammonia toxicity, stunting, nitrate build-up) and then let the person decide what course of action they want to take.

Sadly that's just the way things are, and unless we start selectively breeding ourselves, nothing is going to change.

Short of going to someone's house and grabbing the fish and running, there is nothing you can do about someone who doesn't care. So there's no point in getting worked up over it. Do your best to care for your fish, give the best information you can to help others care for theirs, don't judge and always be polite. That's all you can do.
