Which male to choose?

I have several imported males to choose to breed from. They will either be paired with a blue marble female, a koi marble, or a monster marble. All females have better toplines than the males, and have decent form.

However, Iím finding it hard to decide what male to use. I probably wonít use the HM as I donít particularly like HMs, but I am leaning towards the red fancy male even though his anal is a bit long.

Sorry in advance for the atrocious photos. My blue marble wouldnít flare (he sustained some damage to his scales in shipping) and everyone else thought it was fun to flare right at the back of the tank.

I will get some shots up of the females later today.

Also donít just go by colour. I am looking to create a nice line of marble HMPKs here and want to cull out any obvious faults that will be hard to correct.

I like the third picture guy the best. Beautiful with nice colors.

I was originally going to breed him, but I would need to use one of my PK females as I'm trying to phase HMs out of my fish room (a couple of mine tail bite and it drives me nuts).

I was contemplating breeding him either to my blue marble female or to the female that is matched up with the male in 4th picture.

However, I'm absolutely terrified his beautiful tail will get shredded in the process, and I've been so careful with him.

Male #1 to female monster
Male #1/#3 to female blue marble
Male #4 to female koi

Personally I wouldn't do male #4 - IMO it's a hassle to improve finnage - it will take a few generations to get them right and breed true, which means massive of culling.

I like male #3 best - he has nice finnage and compared to #1, he has much better ventrals.

I like male 3 too except for how dippy his topline is. However, I just noticed what I think is ich on him. I have no idea where that sprung up from as I am always meticulous with water changes etc. He's still behaving normally but I think I'll pull him and the female out for treatment just in case.

I also have a Koi male who I don't mind (he was sold as part of a pair with the Koi female) but his tank is on the floor so I couldn't get photos.

I think I will cross male #1 or #3 onto the blue marble female and see what I get. I might just do a test breed of male #4 once he matures as he is still pretty small compared to the others. I don't mind culling out what I don't want in my lines, as I only have limited space and honestly, I don't see the point in having a whole lot of below average bettas.
