The trouble with relying on the light is that you have to turn it off at night so your boy can rest. When you do, the water volume is too small to maintain the daytime temperature, so it drops back down to room temperature. Both the cold and the sudden fluctuation aren't good. Also, because it isn't adjustable, it could end up giving out too much heat.

Although bettas do like plants and do come from heavily planted areas, nosediving in it all day is a bit odd. Maybe a second plant would give him some more confidence? :) Or a Zoomed betta log, I've heard good things about them. :)

true, i do turn it off at night, only because light bugs me when i sleep, i turned his filter off and hes swimming around more, im not to sure what i should do about that, should i keep it on till he gets used to it, or turn it on maybe once a week to move the water around? and he has two plants, he has the large purple one and a smaller black and white one, i think he likes the bigger one more tho haha. and whats a Zoomed betta log? haha

turning filters on and off constantly is not a good thing .. especially in a cycled tank .. leaving the filter off over 1-2 hrs could cause some bacteria colonies to start dying off .. and then when you turn the filter back on the dead bacteria gets dislodged from the colonies and flows into the tank
