So Placido hasn't been feeling well lately. I let my friend take care of him while I moved out of my old place and into my new one and she did a very poor job of it. Dirty tank and over feeding... He was in his 1 gallon like that for two weeks. I usually do the 50% and 100% w/c every week so he always has a clean tank.
I've had him back in my care for almost a week now and he has made huge improvements. Everyday to every other day I use a mirror for him to flare at. It's usually less than a minute and I can really see what's going on with him. When I got him back he could barely flare and it was the saddest thing. It almost looked painful. Today though for the first time ever he flared at me and not just when he sees his reflection. I decided that if he could flare at me for a second in a couple of hours I would use a mirror and I could check him out.
I noticed that when he flares behind the flare in that crease it's red. Is that normal? I don't seem to remember that. Could it be from ammonia poisoning? He has a pale body so the red stuck out to me. If I could get him to stay still I would take a pic to post but I thought I would post and see if this is normal or not.
