pineconing is where his scales are raised up from the bloat. like this:

have you seen him poo at all? if you feed him flakes or freeze-dried, he could be constipated. have you fasted him? as in, don't feed him for a day or two, see if he poos at all?

yeah, let him clear his system out for a day or two. what i do, is change the water, only leave the gravel or rocks out. that way, i can see if they poo, or not.

If he is bloated, I suggest you give him a salt bath. You will need to use epsom salt. Mix 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon of water. If you have a quarantine tank or bucket, something like that, I suggesting using it for the salt bath. Make sure you use water conditioner and make sure the water is the same temperature as his aquarium water. I would let him soak for an hour or so first of all and see if that helps. Otherwise, keep him in the salt for 1-2 days or until the bloating goes down. I'm not an expert on this subject so someone please correct me if I have anything wrong here.

My betta was bloated and the hour salt bath fixed him right up. His belly had been swollen for about four or five days and I noticed he wasn't pooping. I gave him an hour salt bath and as soon as I put him back in his aquarium he pooped and his belly went back to normal size. The salt may stress him a bit. While in the bath my fish developed stress stripes and was trying to jump out towards the end. When he got back to his aquarium the stress stripes went right away.
