AUGH. 8C NPT shopping fail.

I know I see people posting about starting up npts. Well, I've been trying to get one started. Sent my mom off to buy me the soil. Big mistake. I gave her the name, which was Miracle Gro Organic Choice Potting Soil.

She came back with Miracle Gro Organic Choice Potting MIX-- which is like chipped woodbark and peat moss, and other stuff. Augh. :C And with my money, too. *SIGH* It was only 8 bucks but still...

If it doesn't have any additives-like ferts etc... in it....just sift it and use....I have used a generic type potting soil and it worked fine for me...it had a lot of perilite in it and that was kinda messy and still is every time I pull a plant...but it has never hurt anything or caused any problems.....

If you live in an area that you can dig your own dirt-that will work too.....the dirt I dig in my pasture is mostly decomp leaves, sticks, manure...etc....nice and black with that awesome clean smell of dirt/soil.....gotta go dig some and get a new (used) 10gal I just got and set it up NPT next week...

It's supposed to be at least 55% wood bark and peat moss, and it's got pasturized chicken poo as a fertilizer. >>

You can use potting soil/ferts for a planted tank?
