What's wrong with my betta fish?

I've had my fish since about April. I noticed a few hours ago that he had something sticking out of him:

See the thing sticking up straight in the middle of him? Does anyone know what it is?

holy crap thats so weird!!! i have never seen anything like that! if i were u, id go to a FISH store if possible and see if they know whats going on...
