Introducing Apsu

Hello! I've been lurking for a couple days and decided to take the plunge *snicker* and become an actual member. I had a Betta many many years ago that I unfortunately killed. :( I have confidence in myself this go-round though. I got my new Betta from Petco on Wednesday night. One of my friends went with me and bought him and most of his stuff for me as a bday present, so that was awesome. I got him a 10-gallon tank (cheaper than the smaller ones!), a heater, thermometer, food and API StressCoat+. Oh yeah, and a "croc skull." I'm kind of bare bones with him right now!

Petco's selection was outstanding - 99% of the fish were alive, the water was clean, and several were very active. I fell in love with my little guy when he started flaring at me and everything else when I picked him up. He had attitude. I liked that.

I named him Apsu after the Babylonian god of fresh water. All my animals are named after deities, so I had to continue with Apsu. He is a bluish-green butterfly halfmoon. Very handsome, especially when flaring! And just for good measure, some pictures!

Home sweet home - 10 gallon tank

He LOVES his croc skull and swims in and out of it, sleeps in the mouth, etc.

Unfortunately his flaring pics are all on my cell phone. He is STUNNING when he flares. He's not really eating very much yet, only about 1 pellet a day, but he's still adjusting. He's very active when I go sit with him, and he likes to stare at me. He's neat. :)

Apsu is a very pretty guy, lucky to have that 10 gallon all by himself!

How lovely! And a bare-bottom tank! You don't see many around here, but I do like the look.

Thank you all! And Kytkattin, I like the minimalistic look of the bare bottom as wll. I may put a couple marbles or something in there for some color but that's it.

You can see his poop and the leftover food your Betta doesn't decide to eat and suck that up right away eliminating some ammonia.

Other than that that's pretty much I can think of the benefits of a bare bottom tank.
