Started up my sorority ( Lots of Pics)

Full image of the 10 gallon.

Here's what some of them look like

Red and Blue crown

Red Viel checking out the Zebra Nerite snail

The Dominant female and also my favorite one in the tank

My Original plan was to get all crown tail female, because I'm not a fan of Viel's, but ended up with 3 because they look very nice at Petsmart for 99 cent each.

Total female = 7

Crown tails= 1 blue, 1 turquoise, 1 red fin Dark body, 1 red fin White body

Vieltails= 1 blue/red fin White body, 1 red, 1 black blue red mix

Your tank is beautiful. I just wanted to say that first because I have to point out a problem. Your tank is overstocked. In a 10 gallon sorority, the MAXIMUM amount of girls you should have is 6, and you definitely shouldn't add a snail. They create a LOT of waste and will drive up your ammonia. I suggest getting a separated tank, perhaps a 5 gallon, for your extra female and your snail. I know I sound harsh, but I needed to point this out in case you didn't realize it. Good luck!

If properly planted and if the needed water changes are done, you can have up to 10 females in a 10g sorority, with snails. I have a 20 gallon with 8 Black Neon Tetras, 4 Albino Corys, and soon to be 10 females with 3 mystery snails. Its been fine for 6 months.

I can't imagine have 10 females in a 10 gallon. Isn't the rule 1.5 to 2 gallons per fish? Not to mention bettas aren't peaceful tropical fish. They need room to establish territories. I have a sorority with 5 females in a 10 gallon and I wouldn't add more then that. You start squeezing them together and your asking for trouble.

Have to agree, as beautiful as that tank is, with so many and it only being halfway covered.. you could easily have chemistry issues and high probability of territorial issues over time. You may be able to get away with it if you covered the rest of the tank with live plants and remove the snail.

Allow me to point out that that species of snail has an extremely low bioload, practically negligible.

Secondly in a tank that size it is preferable to over stock on girls. I myself had 8 girls plus a mystery snail (now if you want to talk bioload!) in a planted 10 gallon with nary an issue. I did bi-weekly water testing and water changes as necessary. IME the tank needed one 50% change and one ~10% top off a week, however this was an already established tank with a very solid cycle. My girls were kept well fed and didn't establish territories, they were found all over the tank.

Unless I'm mistaken the op just started this tank up and it looks like the grass plants on the left side of the tank are still growing in so I would assume as the tank matures it will have more plants. Heavily planted tanks don't always happen over night. The fish in the pictures look healthy and unstressed IMO... I've seen much worse looking females in sororities of only 4 per 10 gallon on this forum.

The tank looks extremely well put together IMO. I look forward to seeing it as the plants continue to grow in.
