my little baby made a HUGE bubble nest next to the thermometer. which i was really excited about! ( that means he's happy, right?) but now he flares at everything again! is that a problem?

He's protecting his nest, mess up his bubble nest when you do a water change, he'll make a new one.

I always feel so cruel when I break up the nests they've worked so long and hard on... :(

why do they create them? I'm new to this, well kinda I had a bunch of bettas when I was younger an now that I'm older and livin on my own I appreciate them :)

They make them to mark out their territory in readiness for a ripe female to swim by. It basically says, "This is my patch, and if any of you passing ladies like it feel free to...well, you know."

Not me. I thought about doing it one day if I had the time and space, etc. But the more I learn about it the less I want to do it. Its pretty extensive... check out the Breeding Bettas subforum. You'll find a lot of people asking questions and making threads devoted to their current spawn. Its pretty interesting.

I do plan to one day, when I have a steady job and can afford the 6 gazillion tanks necessary...the trouble is, I don't know who would take the fry here. I can only sell so many at the local aquarium group, and my favourite petshop isn't selling fish any more...

I have been checking out the forums, it is pretty interesting that is why i asked. but i agree, maybe after i get out of college and get settled in, me and my fiance can experiment. we both have a strong passion for fish and little Triton is our baby! :p My dad refuses to call Triton by his real name ( he calls him Ranger ). Idk if any of you fish (purely for enjoyment, relaxation, and QT time with the family), but Triton and Ranger are both a brand of boats and my dad is an avid Ranger fan, we have 2. lol we just named him triton because it was the greek god of water, and it was Ariel's dad. I have red hair so it kinda made sense at the time :p
