Its Dropsey.....

Ok.... im pretty sure my betta has Dropsey. From what I have read its fatal. I have already doesed his tank with Aquarium Salt.

So far here are the symptoms I have noticed:

Raised Scales on the torso only but none twards the tail.
Bloated Stomach
Lethargic
Wont Eat
Is sitting on bottom of tank in a verticle position or laying on side
Rapid breathing

If it is Dropsey should I QT him? or let him live comfortably in with the plants he enjoys laying in? Also when....he passes.....do i have to strip the tank down and through out everything?

Im not to sad....hes 4.5 years old so i gave him a good life rescued from a petco.

Since this is most likely related to aging out.....I would keep him in his planted tank...but-make some water changes and get the aquarium salt out....if you want to treat with anything I would use Epsom salt and it is plant safe too....so it won't harm any salt sensitive plants like aquarium salt will.....and Epsom salt can help with the swelling too.....I would also turn the light out for a day or limit them to a degree......

Another issue will be him struggling to get to the surface to breath.....you may want to cup him and float in the tank or lower the water level......

End of life issues-its important that you don't allow them to suffer needlessly.......

Since dropsy is a symptom and not a disease itself-breaking down the tank is not needed...plus it sounds more like age related issues.....

Keep us posted....
