Question 10gl Stocking and Compatibility

I'm going 2 get a 10gl soon or around Christmas time. I would like to have some tank mates for my Betta. I would like a variety, obviously it would have to be a small one. If thats not possible its ok i would just like it. I just don't want like 6 neon tetra and a betta and thats all. Thanks in advance!

I think that your only choice are shoaling fish unless you get livebearers, most small fish group together I think

^ Yup. Smaller fish are schooling fish, so either you'll want snails or corys. Cory Cats should be in groups of 4+, which would be perfect in a 10 gal.

A school of Corys or Neons would work. You can do livebearing fish (guppies/endlers/platies) but they will reproduce a LOT and the betta may not like the guppies for their tails-thinking they're a betta themselves.

A small shoal of neon or some type of rasbora will work fine maybe 6 or 7

Hrm, Neons could work but a lot of people here don't recommend them anything smaller than 15 gallons to be honest. Also Neon Tetras are active, depends on the Betta he might not like them being all active and he might get stressed out.

If you're into tetras try Ember Tetras, they're less active and smaller which is always a plus. 6 ~ 8 of them would be perfect.

Or if you use sand you could do Pygmy Cories, since these guys can't be housed in gravel since they're barbs will get damaged. Again 6 ~ 8 of these.

You can't really mix and match in a 10 gallon, it's quite hard and most of the time you'll probably end up overstocking. You can add in a snail and some shrimps along with the choice of your fish but that's pretty much it to be honest.
