I have the Tetra 10g starter kit, no problems with it.

But few things I changed were:

• Lighting was switched because it was incandescent and I hate incandescent, I recommend you change your lighting to fluorescent simply because it's more efficient, creates less heat, and looks better in general.

• I switched the filter, it was the Tetra 10i Whisper. I have a community tank in my 10g so it was necessary. Since it'll be just your Betta you won't need to switch the filter.

You should be able to fit the heater and filter in snuggly, overall cheap tank. But kinda funny though, I bought my 10g for $37.99. . Dunno why 5g is so expensive.

I beleive the filter is a hang off back power filter, therefore it might be a bit more expensive.

This one seems to be pretty popular as well. & Since its cheaper & already comes with a florescent bulb I think i would go with it.

The huge difference between those two tanks is that the Hawkeye is acrylic while the tetra is glass. I'm not too fond of acrylic TBH.

I have that kit. LOVE it. But I'd use a fluorescent bulb if you intend to have live plants. Actually, just get one anyway. The lighting looks SO much nicer.

The Hawkeye is actually larger, too. Just by a couple inches, but still.

The Hawkeye is acryllic, but I have 2 acryllic tanks, and if you care for them they're just as clear as glass. The problem is that it can scratch, but if you're not throwing it around, dropping it, scarping it, etc it's just perfect. Not to mention it already comes with a 5,000k fluorescent light! You won't have to buy a new bulb.

A 6,500k 10 watt bulb is $10... So you're just racking up more costs with the kit you want.

In my opinion, the Hawkeye is better. I wouldn't want to ay $15 more (bulb included) just for glass!

Hmm.... Good idea! But remember a heater, and a light. I like the tank!
