PHOTOS! New addition to our family :)

We just moved to our own basement apt, my boyfriend and I. We both grew up with cats and decided that once we were moved in and settled we'd go through a shelter and rescue a cat. Well, that got turned upside down when, Friday night, my mom texted me at work and said her neighbor went to jail and his cat was left outside without food/water/shelter. It wan an adult male neutered cat (exactly what we wanted) and he had no where to go. So I told her to take him inside and I would pick him up. Judging by his belly he has gone without good nutrition for a while. He has very shiny, soft fur but according to my sister, who used to see him around outside when she visited my mom, he used to have a fat hanging belly. So, since his behaviour is normal I'll just hope he fattens up off good food!! A vet check is in order though just to make sure.
We kept his name, Oliver. And he's about 2 years old apparantly. VERY sweet, affectionate cat (given the situation he comes from). He's very playful and is still separated from my bunny until I finish building her bunny condo. I was with him when he noticed Lakitu up in the window and he just watched. It's funny, he just seems curious about the fish and bunny. He wasn't trying to get at them!! And I know he's a hunter from his outside past and the way he plays with toys!!

We are currently free feeding him becuase he is so skinny. He's a big boy otherwise, tall and once he gains some weight he'll be a tough guy. Tabby wasn't my first choice but I cannot believe in only 2.5 days the difference he has made to our lives!!

Saturday was the SPCA fall fair and we splurged on Ollie :) Got him a new collar an harness and toys. Who knew the simple "cat dancer" toy would be such a hit?!!

Thanks guys!! He's made himself quite at home. I only tonight finished my bunny's new gigantic mansion condo and he was occupied for a while with her but he's very responsive to corrections ("skk" and "no, Olliver") While he doesn't seem afraid he knows we're serious.

@littlebitty, that second pic has been my facebook profile pic since an hour or so after we brought him home!! I love it :D

he looks so cute! I know he's lucky to have you adopt him like that :)
he's every bit the rescue, even if you didn't get him from the SPCA

Will you get to keep him if the neighbour gets out? He's a stunner - he looks so at home already! I wish we could have a cat, but I'm not sure how it would get on with my allergic father and my ratties. :3

Oh I know he's better than an SPCA rescue!! Bc WE did the rescuing! My mom showed me the wet blankets buddy had on the deck that she found Ollie laying in :/ He's gone to jail for some time I hear.. But with the justice system these days, he'll be out for being bipolar or a "recovering alcoholic".. (which was his initial problem) And he's our cat now. If the old owner came to the door (which he won't bc he don't know who I am) I would call the police. He didn't arrange with anyone to watch his cat and for some time he didn't even feed the cat. Oliver is too thin to have been taken care of. (which is funny bc why go through the trouble of having him neutered if you won't arrange for his care during troubled times??)

I know everyone goes through unexpected trials but in those cases, I don't care what it is, you have your family members looked for. You would for your kids, so why not pets?

Ollie is here to stay!! He's so cuddly. He watched a movie with us and laid on our laps. I definitely missed having a cat around :) I read about taking apple cider vinegar (with "mother") and some herbal remedies will calm allergies and asthma symptoms!! ;) I know my sister keeps rats (and has for years) and she had cats around. Rats got along fine with them! My bunny is acting all tough and boxing and grunting, I built her this giant condo tonight and since she has snubbed Oliver. She's lived with cats before (when I was looking after my sister's cat and mom's cat when we took her in) but Acacia just likes to be alone.

Anyway, best part so far is that he doesn't shed when you pet him!
