A bubble nest?

Can someone verify this as a bubble nest? I came home this afternoon to find it in Tristan's corner of his side of the tank. Or is it the result of bad water flow?

If it is indeed a nest, how's the best way of going about "cleaning" the tank? I don't want to upset him, but there won't be any females...

That is indeed a little bubblenest. I wouldn't worry about messing it up when cleaning. He most likely will just start a new one after the waterchange. Mine love to build new ones right after a new waterchange. They can get pretty big sometimes!

It's a good first nest for him and you :)
I feel bad when I have to break them, but it's fun to see how big the next one will be. Had one cover almost a 2 gallon tank with bubbles.. that was a huge one. Mine prefer to make them under oak leaves hehe

For when time DOES come to clean, what's the best way? Just net it out?

Depends on how you clean your tank. If you use a cup, just cup out water- the nest may or not break. Mine will fall into smaller nest- the nests are made of their spit, so it's kind of sticky. You can cup it out, or just leave it and let it break on it's own.. and if it doesn't break, he may continue to build off of it. I know mine will do that, will go and build more on an existing one each day.

I may let it sit and see what happens. Can't hurt, after all :]

Nope! Just don't not do the water changes because you're afraid of disturbing it.. it gives him something to do :) Sometimes it takes them awhile to make another, and sometimes not. Mine will go a few weeks or so before another. But if you can keep it there, then would be interesting to see if he makes it bigger.

Well, with a water filter for a 10g tank with only 2 bettas, a water change isn't in the immediate future :] Thanks, guys!

Once a week, 30-50% is what is recommended for that size, even with a filter. So hopefully he has most of a week left to go!
