Hi EmmaliLucia and welcome to the forum. I'm glad your male wasn't too seriously harmed. Fortunately, his fins will grow back just fine. All you need is nice clean water, which I'm sure you'll do (judging from your first post). Follow Myates' advice and use API Stress Coat and a high protein diet, lots of frozen foods.

Curlyfatbattom, in general, you want to avoid using just plain table salt. Aquarium salt is best because it is made for use with fish. Just be careful it isn't MARINE salt. That is an entirely different thing. You are correct that salt can be used, but in specific situations. An overuse of salt leads to damage to the fish and a resistance to its medical properties.

Also, just a heads up: we pretty much frown on the practice of fish fighting. Even if you yourself don't actually fight your fish, you might want to avoid mentioning it just so you don't rile people up and get them mad at you.

Cheerio all!

Well, she isn't breeding, nor fighting, nor does the boy have any damage other then fin damage- so no reason to use salt on him. Just back in his home with lowered water level and regular water changes.

Yup! Hope it works. Got lucky and it was just fin damage, but as long as the changes are made, he should be fine back in his home and shouldn't have any issues as long as you keep up the weekly water changes :)
If you notice anything else with him, or her, just let us know :) Good luck!

UPDATE:
Jack's tail isn't fully back yet but he is doing great. I bought Babydoll a 2.5 gal tank and she's happy as ever.

I attached a picture of how he's looking now. I'm so happy that he's alright, I can't tell this to them but Jack has always been my favourite...

EmmaliLucia, he looks fabulous! His color is good and his eyes are bright (and very pretty). You're doing an awesome job with him. :)

Thank you! I have actually been trying to look up how common it is for a betta to have blue eyes.. I saw him at the store and was like "MINE!"
