bettas embraced but no eggs? o.O

My male and female have embraced 2 or 3 times and the female has not released any eggs. she is obviously full of them but she didnt released any as well as the male didnt pick up any. this is the first time for this pair to be bred at all. is this normal?

now he has chased her away and is building more on his nest.

Welcome to the forum.....

Its not uncommon for the pair to embrace several times without release of eggs-sometimes it can take hours-while others only seconds....often, especially with first time breeders they can get frustrated and not uncommon for one or the other to either stop spawning altogether or attack.....give them time and try not to disturb them during this time...they usually will work it out and sometimes it may take them a day or two....I would leave them together unless one is injured badly or panting...its not uncommon for one or both to have nipped, ripped and tattered fins and missing scale...its all part of the process with some...as long as the spawning tank is setup properly and the female can get away to rest...all should be fine....

Ive just never experienced it before and never had a problem breeding my fish.
Does this mean she wont release the eggs or will she eventually with more practice?

Congrats.....it usually takes about 24-32h for the eggs to hatch...depending on water temp and pH.....

What are your feeding plans for the fry once free swimming in about 2-4 days after they hatch.....

i have live plants in the tank for infusorians. as well as fresh hatched baby brine shrimp. i use them for my adults and babies. as well as microworms. then later i will add bloodworms to the list. :)
