Hi, today I found out my half moon betta has Ick after reading the stickies in this section.
What size is your tank? 5 gallons
What temperature is your tank? 78 degrees
Does your tank have a filter? No
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? No
Is your tank heated? Yes
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? None
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Aqua Culture betta pellets
How often do you feed your betta fish? 2 times a day
How often do you perform a water change? Once a week
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 100% change
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Water conditioner and a little of AQ (5 pieces or so)
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters? Haven't tested it
Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Losing some color, white specks of "dust" on its fins and body
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Darts pretty frequently, still eats though
When did you start noticing the symptoms? During this week I did notice how he was clamping his fins a bit more but I thought a water change would solve it, but then I examined his body and found out he has Ick (he's white/yellow so it was hard to see at first)
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? Yes, I changed the water today, filled my 5 gallon only half way to ensure the temperature will rise (I have one of those non adjusting temp. heaters), added 1 tsp of AQ.
Does your fish have any history of being ill? No, I got him in September and he was fine until now
How old is your fish (approximately)? Got him for about 2 months but he is really tiny so I'm thinking he only 6 months old? I'm not too sure.
So I started treating my betta like the sticky said but I do have a question... in this part:
"Conservative: Add 1 tsp/gal Aquarium Salt 3 times, 12 hours apart so that you end up with 3 times the normal concentration. Perform daily 100% water changes to remove fallen parasites before they can reproduce. Replace the water with the right amount of salt. Do not continue this treatment for more than 14 days."
I've already added the 1 tsp AQ salt, do I wait another 12 hours then add another dose to the existing water, then add another dose 12 hours later in the existing water, then I finally change the water 100%? I'm not sure and I'm scared I'll get the fish sicker dumping all that salt on him.
Please and thank you in advance!
