What....was that?

This morning when I went to feet my all my fish, in the tank of Apollo and Sunkist, I noticed something covering the entire surface of Apollo's side.

I paniced once I realized it was thick, so I scooped as much out as possible. It seems to be gone now.

It was like that film stuff the tanks get...only....10 times thicker, and gathered up as white lumps on my hands.

Anyone had this happen?

Edit: Thought I'd throw in that Sunkist has the side with the filter, if that helps anyway.

Yep, I get it all the time. So thick it's almost like soap. A good way to get rid of it on the fly is to gently dip a cup in on the surface, only so the surface water and the gunk gets in the cup. Do it until most of its gone and just replace the water :)

you can also use fine firm floss pieces (like half inch thick firm filtration fiber) and lift up through the stuff to get rid of surface scum.

I had the same problem. I got so distraught about it that I super cleaned everything! Hot water scrub on everything and then multiple hot water and vinegar soaks. I did this twice in one week and the problem completely went away. No idea why it happened or why it vanished - but I'm sure glad it did!! :)

I'm so glad I found this thread! I was panicking about it, too! But cool, totally glad it's not harmful to my baby! (:
