Giant bettas are roughly double the size of an average betta. My friend has one. I thought he was a mutant til i found out about giant bettas! I kept saying "that CANT be a betta!!!"

Just a larger size- there are a variety of tail types as well with them.

Obviously they need much larger tanks, think 10 gallons or more. They also tend to have shorter lifespans, though by how much I don't know.

I own a giant half moon plakat. Petco sells them as "King" betta's. Some will say these are only 1/2 giants, I personally think "King" bettas are giant just not the largest of the giant strain bettas but I could be wrong (it's a long discussion on the giant gene/genes and how the "full giant" bettas are measured). They have a different personality than most bettas I've owned, constantly move and they are STRONG. They also eat about 12X the amount of a regular betta and mine never looks full. Oddly he has also never flared but that will hopefully change soon when he moves into his new home
