Question about white barnacles/deposits.

Hello all,

My 5 gallon tank has been running for about two months now. I have an anubus plant attached to a lava rock and about one month ago I noticed these white calcium looking things appearing on my plant. At first I thought it may be ich clusters or something but my fish is perfectly healthy and never developed ich. I thought nothing of it but after doing my weekly water change and tank clean I noticed that these deposits have started appearing on my tank glass and inside my filter intake tube. Im curious now as to what these deposits are and hopefully they are not bad for my tank but maybe beneficial. Has anyone else had these appear on their plants or tank glass? Maybe someone can tell me what they are. Here is a picture of them growing on my anubus plant.

Those look snail eggs, probably nerite eggs :) They will not hatch (infertile) and can be removed easily with a knife (lol!) and can stay on there without issue. Im not use how youre getting them unless you own a snail, though.

I get them all the time.

Also, your plants will not "get ich"- nothing on the plants will ever look like ich as it does on a fish.

Wow thank you so much. I do have a nerite snail in the tank so that explains everything. I do wonder how they got on the inside of my filter intake tube though.

Hah, how funny. Well, you certainly have a lady snail on your hands :)

And I wonder that, too. Maybe she's really adventurous? My snails crawl up the filter, into the water bay and down into the intake sometimes :P
