Still sick!

Mystery is not acting his normal self...

For the majority of the day he has been laying on his side either on his rock or on the bottom of his bowl underneath the rock.

Every so often he will jolt up to the top of the bowl as if he is trying to catch a breath or something and then swims back down to lay on his side again.

I have cleaned his bowl 100%

His swimming looks normal. Quick, straight, and upright.

He is eating normal

He does not look bloated.

His color, to the best of my knowledge, seems normal.

Water temperature ranges from 78-82 through out the day.

Please help, I am worried about my little guy!

Sorry your Betta isn't well....need a little more info...

How big is the tank, how much and how often are the water changes, filter, live plants, additives used, any tank mates, how long have you had him and has he ever been sick and/or treated...can you post a pic....

I change the water once a week

he lives in a 1 gallon tank i believe, either 1 gal. or 1.5 gal.

The second picture is how he usually lays at the bottom.

It seems as if he is having trouble floating. he is always swimming to the top, never floating to the top and he is also always swimming to the bottom and never floating to the bottom. It looks like in order to stay towards the top he has to give him self a little push.

How long have you had him and how long has he been like this....I am going to assume the 1gal isn't filtered and you don't have live plants and you use dechlorinator...correct me if any of this is wrong.....

You have a thermometer and heater too...correct.....

I would keep him in that container you have him in pictured and lower the water level a little so he doesn't have to struggle-float him in that container in the heated tank to maintain water temp in the 76-78F range-attach it to the side so it doesn't sink and cover the top with plastic veggie wrap to help retain the heat and humidity for his labyrinth organ and start him on Epsom salt (Not aquarium salt) treatment, tannins and water changes for 10-14 days...

Premix the treatment water in a 1gal jug of dechlorinated water-Add Epsom salt 3tsp/gal and a tannin source-either IAL or dried Oak leaf...let this Tx water steep for 30min to start the release of the tannins and the salt to dissolve....Shake well before use and use this water for 25% water changes every 15min for 1 hour today and tomorrow start 50% every 30min for 1 hour...do this for the next 10-14 days......turn off the light for the next 2 days and offer small frequent meals of a good quality varied diet.....

It may take 4-5 days before you start to see any improvement-but you want to do at least 10 full days of this treatment....

Keep us posted.....

Yes, he need to stay in the small QT container with the premixed treatment water-using the premixed treatment water for the water changes-you can float it in the heated tank so you can maintain the temp...but be sure and attach it so it doesn't sink.....
