Blackworms?

Guess these are new... Anyone heard of them? Guess you can get some for free but wanted to ask around before getting any...

I feed blackworms to all my wild bettas and smaller natives.

I house mine in a 2 gallon tank with a thin layer of gravel and a powerhead for oxygenation. They are fed dog/fish food a couple of times a week as well as old Indian Almond Leaves. Mine right now are all out of the substrate having a big feast on the dog food I put in there last night.

They are easy to harvest. I just scoop up some gravel, swill it around and pour the dislodged worms out into another container.

I have had no problems with feeding my bettas blackworms. However, the ones you get from stores are sometimes housed in unsanitary conditions so it is recommended that you rinse well before feeding them.

I think most of your LFSs should. Here, they are sometimes sold in bags from the front counter, though usually I just ask someone to get a couple of scoops for me.

A good way to tell if your blackworms are healthy, is to put them all in a container and see if most of them clump together. Healthy worms will form clumps, while unhealthy ones won't.
