A strange case of fin rot

So, I have 4 bettas and two of them have some pretty nasty and weird rot. No matter how clean the water, their fins rot within 6-8 hours of a water change. They're currently in 82F water and sitting in their hospital cups (with 1 tsp of AQ salt per gallon of water) with 100% water changes every single day. I can add pictures if you want, but it seems like pretty standard fin rot, except for the whole super fast and never goes away. :/

Thanks for all of your help. <3

Fin Rot can't happen that fast its most likely tail biting which means that they are either bored depressed or stressed most likely stressed from the 100% water change!!! Just do the regular things like the heated tank filter and lots of plants and caves to destress them!

hi omgitslph,

Would you mind filling out the sticky so that we can understand the whole situation better and be able to give you help. Also, how big is these "hospital cups"? Take photos of the fins in question if you can.

How bad is it? You said it was weird fin rot, but it looked pretty normal so I'm not sure. Please take a gander at this thread http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=76747 (copy and paste if you can't click on it to get there). It's about a rapidly progressing kind of "fin rot" that basically wastes the fins within 8 hrs or so of onset. It's not curable and so far the fish we've seen that definitely had it did not survive the disease, whatever it was.

It's not that crazy gray fungus stuff. They're not blue fish so no worry there.

Can't really be tail biting tbh since there aren't any chunks missing in the tail. It's more of like a fraying of the fin.

tail biting can look like small chunks, or i had a delta who destroyed half his tail, just vanished outta the blue. if you can get pictures, we can rule out tail biting, ripping, or fin rot. :3

if you're sure it's fraying and no chunks or just missing ( ruling out tailbiting ), you could try upping the salt dosage to two teaspoons and adding in API Stress Coat+ Conditioner... you can use it in addition to your normal conditioner, no worries... Stress Coat+ will help them stress-wise and promote the fin regrowth some... you might try OFL's Tannin for both stress and resistance... she gives instructions here... and you can use up to three teaspoons per gallon of FW AQ Salt, though I'd start at the one teaspoon end and work my way up... my boy had some seriously aggressive fin rot and for me the two teaspoons + API's stress coat and Prime fixed it... please keep us posted... I hope your poor boys improve soon.... <3 <3

also if you could fill out the above questions with their old tank info as well that might help.... but all fingers crossed <3

edit: and yes, pics always help :3

the crazy grey fungus stuff ( in this case ) is referring to Mystery Disease :3 Mystery Disease is a new issue that has been occurring lately ONLY IN MALE, /BLUE/ BETTAS. thus the connection between blue males and crazy grey stuff :3
they have not found this disease in any other fish, any other color, or in any females. ( although there is one POSSIBLE female case on another site. not for sure it's the same thing though and that's only one case as opposed to several male cases. )
