can i use under gravel filters instead of filters that aren't under gravel?

i was on petsmart shopping, and the under gravel filter was the only size they had for 10 gal. tanks.
So... can i use it in place of another kind?

If you buy from petsmart, what kind of artificial plants do you use?
and which exact one do you use? I cant find a good one, and petco sucks at it's fish section.

Under gravel filters are just as good to use. It just sucks the water through the gravel. You will still need to siphon the gravel up regularly, and make sure the filter is baffled if there is a current.

Silk plants (the soft kind) over plastic- you can use plastic, just make sure there are no points or sharp edges to catch the fins. I order all of mine online, unsure what the stores around you carries.

oh i order mine online too.
I have made a list of things i want to buy.. here is a link to the page, and add about $15 for a ten gallon tank.
I need to find a way to get a divider... i am going to try and ask around to see if anyone has an extra one.

thanks! do you have any instructions to make one that doesn't use the binder tabs?

No I don't :( They work well as they are sturdy and straight. If you use the AQ silicone glue, I would assume anything straight with a harder edge would work- just glue it to the material itself. People just use them as they are cheaper and easier, but I can see why one wouldn't like them, as they sometimes have a thick edge.
But unsure what else can be used.. possibly start a thread in the habitat section to see if anyone else has any ideas.. I haven't divided a tank for about 8 years, and I used store bought ones.. but others may have different ideas to share.

Some people will glue the mesh to the tank itself, if you only ever plan on keeping bettas in it.

Just make sure to allow the glue to dry 24 hrs before adding water to it.
