Here, you can get a 10g kit for the same price as a 2g kit, if not cheaper. Both are about $70. Depends on what you want. Most people who don't want 10g is usually because of lack of space. So they choose a smaller tank, but still spend the same amount. I never got it really. You guys are so lucky to have such cheap tanks. Even our bare 10g with nothing are $25+.

I got my 2.5 gal tank, completely bare glass rectangle, for $14.99 at petco, and then a ten gallon for $12.99 at the same store a couple months later. XD It is retarded, really. I didnt even get a lid with the 2.5. *shrug*

it's kinda sad really.
If most people who work at petsmart's fish section aren't smart enough to notice that one's 4x larger than the other and they're priced the same, they shouldn't be able to inform people about how to care for a fish

Being in the retail business myself (auto parts though) I think I know why this is the case. Supply and demand plays a part as all those new betta owners don't want to put their betta in a 10 gallon tank. So they buy a 2.5g with a glass lid. I'm willing to bet they know this so the jack the price of the 2.5g up. Also, as has been mentioned, the 10g is a bare tank. Most 10g starter kits cost approx $30us at walmart.

The flipside could be they don't sell nearly as many 2.5g or even 5.5g tanks as they do 10g tanks. When bought in bulk, the more you buy, the price per unit drops.

My 5.5 gallon bare tank cost me $12 and change at petsmart, and my 10 gallon bare tank which was supposed to be a sump for my 20H sw project cost me $10.
