Guarding

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the best forum for this question but here it goes:

My Betta Harley recently made a bubble nest (I'd only had him 2 days) and he seems to be "guarding" the nest a lot. He always seems to swim around the surface now. He did a bit before but now it's about 60% of the time. Is he just protecting the nest? He's starting not too swim around them as much now that they are starting to disappear, so there's less to guard? How normal is this? Now that there's less bubbles, are they "popping" as time goes on or just sinking?

that is normal. bettas will build bubble nest for one of three reasons. one territorial. in the wild male bettas werent seperated like they are domestically, so if he sees a malle he will do this. two he is happy. and three breeding. if he is in sight of a female he will do this,

they would be popping, they take a very dedicated boy to keep a big nest constantly. sponge bob has a big nest every three or four days.

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping he's doing the bubble nests because he's happy. I didn't know they did them that often.

yep some do daily some wont nest till u show em a lady ;)
