Curious about "kinked" fins

One of my boys, a male VT is absolutely gorgeous, healthy, happy, nesting like mad, flaring at his neighbour, and generally enjoying his half of the divided 10 gal.

My question is about his fins. The rays in his find have started to curl and kink at the ends, sorta like a spiral. It's getting to the point it looks like the ends of his fins are starting to grow apart. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of anything like this, or might know a way to treat it. Unfortunately the issue is very hard to photograph

The anal fin in this picture reminds me of some of the milder looking spots http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l.../camera275.jpg

sometimes, water quality can cause their fins to kink and curl.

The PH is on the low side, very low actually, but it's a planted tank and that's lowering the KH/Gh and that lowers the Ph (from my understanding). The rest of the parameters are all good, 0 ammonia, etc. I know water conditions can cause a CT's rays to curl and kink, but this doesn't feel the same to me.
