Cool maybe thinking of getting a live plant...

a marimo moss ball! they are soo cool looking!!! i think they sell them at petco? it would be for my new 2.5 gal (filtered) I've read they help clean the tank and grow well in low light and without fertilizer, which is good because I only have small LED's. has anyone had success growing them?

I'm happy to hear they grow slowly cause I'd rather not end up with this:

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gyEkZiZEBe0?version=3&feature=player_detailpage">< param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gyEkZiZEBe0?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>

moss balls grow at 3-5mm a year.. So the one in that pic looks like its atleast 20 years old.

Edit: actually I am not so sure that is even a real "moss ball" (atleast not as we refer to them being marimo moss)

Moss balls don't "clean" the water. The absorb SOME ammonia, but not enough to negate any water changes.

oh I'd absolutely still do regular water changes, (would a 25% per week be good?) plus I have a tetra whisper 3i filter :) just figured it would help a bit to have live a live plant

I'd stick to exactly the same water change schedule as you have been doing. One plant doesn't help enough to change anything.
