Knitting and Crocheting ?

What is the difference between knitting and crocheting ? And which is the easiest to learn and do ?
I know how to sew a bit and I can embroidery pretty well but I want to learn how to do one of those now.

i taught myself how to knit with a lot of youtube videos and a book named stitch n bitch i tried to teach myself to crochet using the same line of books but it didn't turn out right @_@ and trying to crochet made me stare at trying to put the hook in the right holes so much that it felt like i was staring crosseyed at it and gave me a headache after a while .. which i know i'm probably not doing right and i wish i could be taught by someone but no one i know knows how to crochet

i find that knitting is easier for me, because all i really needed to learn how to do are 2 types of stitches, and everything else comes from knowing how to do those two stitches. and i can watch tv and knit and not have to look at what i'm doing .. so it's a lot easier for me on the eyes and concentration department

Biggest difference, knitting you use 2 needles and crochet you use 1 hook. I like the look of knitting more, it's easier on my wrists and it uses less yarn.
I can do both, but I prefer knitting waaaaaay more.

What would I need to start out knitting a small scarf ?
I have absolutely no knitting supplies whatsoever, well so far that is ::) lol

i recommend to start with a bigger sized straight needles like a 15mm .. with thicker yarn (it will tell u on the yarn label what size needles are recommended) ..

also i prefer using metal knitting needles over plastic or bamboo .. but if you don't have access to that you can always get a pair of pointy bamboo chopsticks from an asian restaurant and practice with those till your ready to invest more into knitting needles cus they can get expensive if you want all the sizes

I think size 8 needles and worsted weight yarn would be great. I don't even like working with larger needles on bulky yarn so I don't see how it would be pleasant to learn on.
Straight needles are good, but I wouldn't go longer then 10" because then they just get in the way. I prefer nickel or wood needles. Wood is great for stuff you don't want to slide. Nickel is more slick. I despise aluminum, though I might be a bit of a needle snob.
As far as a small basic scarf, I would stick with the knit stitch through the whole thing.
