Unhappy Torn side fin, not healing, turning red and white?

Akemi's fin has been torn for near a week now and is not healing, and the end near her body is turning a bit red and white. What should I do?

Pleas answer as much of this as you can, so that we can help you better:

Quote:
Housing
What size is your tank?
What temperature is your tank?
Does your tank have a filter?
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration?
Is your tank heated?
What tank mates does your betta fish live with?

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish?
How often do you feed your betta fish?

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change?
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change?
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change?

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?

Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
pH:
Hardness:
Alkalinity:

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
When did you start noticing the symptoms?
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
Does your fish have any history of being ill?
How old is your fish (approximately)?
Fin healing sometimes depends on how it was damaged in the first place, and treatments vary with those reasons. They pretty much all include fresh clean conditioned water. Always a good place to start.

Aww poor guy..

A couple of questions.. was the tear just a simple split, or does it look like a chunk is missing from it? Such as a V or C shape to it?

A simple split should of fused back together within a couple of days at the most.. so I'm thinking a chunk is missing and it may be becoming infected with fin fungus/rot.

Start out doing daily 50% water changes in the home tank and lowering the temp to 76*F (if it's the fungal form, then that will slow down the growth of it, as well as still be in the safe range for him)- if by 3-5 days it hasn't cleared up then go ahead and place in a QT tank/container- unsure what size tank he's in right now, or if he is in a divided.. a 1 gallon is suitable. It's because you will be wanting to do daily 100% water changes- so something that would be easy for you.
1 teaspoon of AQ salt per gallon, pre-dissolve it prior to adding it in with your little guy.. daily 100% water changes for no more then 10 days.

If there is a way to get a picture up, that would be most helpful.

*edit* just saw that he is in a 3 gal unfiltered.. go ahead and you can keep him in there during treatment, just adjust the salt to a total of 3 teaspoons for the tank (1 tsp per gal). I was typing when you posted lol
Also, go ahead and add in 1 50% water change per week with your 100%, as just the 100% may not be enough and reason why his fin is having a hard time healing.

That's fine on the pictures.. if you can get anything, it might be helpful

If it's hard to do 2 water changes a week, you may be able to get away with a 100% every 4-5 days instead. Bettas themselves don't cause a whole lot of bio load, but as long as there isn't food left over then you could most likely get away with the 4-5 days rather then 2 per week.

We always recommend a certain number/times, but it's just a recommendation. Yet sometimes you find something that works best for you and your time/fish. I personally do mine 100% every 4-5 days for my 1-2 gals unfiltered :) it works great for them and me.

Silly clocks again! If the pics are on y our computer, if you go under "Go Advanced" and in the upper section of the type box you will see a paper clip- you can use that to download directly from you pc.. may work better.
